Ubaida Bello is a 25-year-old from Talata Mafara LGA. Married with five children. Life took a drastic turn when her family could no longer farm, which had been the community’s primary source of income. Her husband’s small business wasn’t enough to meet all their needs, and constantly asking him for money became a strain on their relationship. In desperation, I resorted to sending my children out to hawk. She narrated.
One day, a friend told her about an organization called Life Helpers Initiative (LHI) in partnership with Secours Islamique France (SIF). At first, she was hopeful, but part of her feared they would just give her food and leave her to struggle again.
That Saturday morning, I attended the group’s meeting. We were informed about the real purpose of our gathering, and everything changed for me from that moment. I started contributing to a group savings program, and eventually, I received a loan to start my own business. I began selling Masa (rice cakes) from my home, and today, I’m not only able to support my family, but I also have helpers whom I pay for their assistance.
Aside from her business success, she has learned the value of giving back. The group has made it a wonderful experience to help others in need, and she is now in a position to contribute to the welfare of others.
